Interstellar: This World Is A Tragedy

Interstellar: Poster| A Constantly Racing Mind.
Before you know it we will be heading into November and into theaters to witness Christopher Nolan's great space adventure, as we watch as humankind ventures into the far reaches of the holy void of space.  Here is another "Interstellar" trailer to feast your eye upon and tap your foot impatiently waiting for October to end.

Academy Award Winner Matthew McConaughey,  and Anne Hathaway from "The Dark Knight Rises" team up to travel billions of miles in search of a new home for humanity.  Since the industrial revolution, human beings pollute the Earth at a rate that grows exponentially each year. With certain gases in the atmosphere blocking heat from escaping, other gasses that linger in the atmosphere do not change in temperature and 'force' climate change.  From ice melting at the polar caps, to drought and dust storms throughout the world, it is clear that we are quickening our own doom.  The Earth as McConaughey's character Cooper says in the the film, "It's been telling us to leave for a while now."

In the trailer below we see Cooper (McConaughey) finding a crashed drone and discusses with his daughter Murph (Mackenzie Foy) what to do with it. Next we see images of the Earth as seen from a rocket taking off and jettisoning one of its rocket stages. Similar to many scenes we've seen on TV with the Apollo missions and in films like "Apollo 13" with Tom Hanks. "Your daughter's generation will be the last to survive on Earth.," says Michael Caine's character. Images of our solar system display while a soft piano plays over a fast beat of violins playing in the background as Cooper and Brand (Hathaway) prepare to enter the wormhole and leave our galaxy. Their rocket ship descends toward a planet and next we find them walking on a new planet. Next, we see some amazing scenes of this alien other world. Cooper exclaims, "Our mission does not work if the people on Earth are dead by the time we pull it off."  Then we see a shuttlecraft landing on water and both Brand and Cooper in the water. At the end, Cooper declares that humankind will "...find a way, like we always have."

Here is the synopsis from IMDB and Wikipedia:
A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. Among the travelers is a widowed engineer (McConaughey) who has to decide to leave behind his two children to join the voyage with the goal of saving humanity
Look for Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is due out on November 7, 2014 in the United States.

Interstellar: Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Interstellar: Banner | A Constantly Racing Mind

Warner Bros. released a new trailer for Christopher Nolan's new Science Fiction Space Adventure titled "Interstellar."

 Here is the synopsis:
A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Based on a script by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and some additional elements that Christopher Nolan fleshed out, "Interstellar" is looking pretty epic at the moment.  The film stars  Academy Award Winner Matthew McConaughey of last year's "Dallas Buyers Club", Anne Hathaway from Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" as astronauts looking for a new planet to colonize.

In the trailer, Michael Caine quotes Dylan Thomas as McConaughey says goodbye to his children, and promises them that he will return after his mission of finding a new planet to live on.
Do not go gentle into that good night,

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

~ Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953

Brand; Couldn't you've told her that you are going to save the world?Cooper: No, when you become a parent, you want to make sure your children feel safe.
Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is due out on November 7, 2014 in the United States.

Interstellar: Nothing In this Solar System Can Help Us

The secretive Christopher Nolan has been trickling out a few trailers since late last year.  Details of the plot are scarce but IMDB lists the synopsis as:
A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Based on a script by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and some additional elements that Christopher Nolan fleshed out, "Interstellar" is looking pretty epic at the moment.  The film stars  Academy Award Winner Matthew McConaughey of last year's "Dallas Buyers Club", Anne Hathaway from Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" as astronauts looking for a new planet to colonize.

At Edwards Air Force Base in California, Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier on  October 14, 1947.  On July 21, 1969 an American set foot on the moon. In December of 1972, was the last time a human stood on the moon's surface.  On July 8, 2011 the Atlantis was the last shuttle flown by the United States and the end of the American Space Shuttle program. The Americans specifically, and mankind in general, lost their pioneering spirit.  The pioneer spirit that built this land is gone.

Something is wrong with the planet Earth.  That much is obvious in the next trailer.  With massive climate change, food and other resources are becoming scarce.  After finding an opportunity to explore worlds beyond our own solar system, McConaughey's character must leave his children behind and save mankind.

We're not meant to save the world, we're meant to leave it.  We must reach far beyond our own lifespans.   We must think, not as individuals, but as a species. We must confront the reality of interstellar travel.

"We used look up in the sky and wonder at our place in the stars.  Now we just look down and worry abour our place in the dirt."

Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is due out on November 7, 2014 in the United States.

Star Trek: Into Darkness ~ Extended Clip

Star Trek ~ The Needs of the Many | A Constantly Racing Mind
In this extended clip from J.J. Abram's new "Star Trek: Into Darkness," Spock (Zachary Quinto) is working to stop a volcano from erupting   Of course Spock is willing to sacrifice himself and in typical Kirk (Christopher Pine) fashion, is willing to risk all to save him.  Karl Urban, while channeling DeForrest Kelly's Dr. McCoy with uncanny accuracy exclaims, "Shut up Spock, we're trying to save you damn it."

Star Trek - Into Darkness New Trailers

Out numbered and out gunned, Captain James T.. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise take on John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) in a fight to the death.  When isn't it a fight to the death with Kirk?

Either way, two new trailers showing the destruction that Harrison has wrought upon the Earth.

I think it will be pretty interesting to find out who John Harrison really is, and what is motivation for all this carnage.

Don't forget to stay to the end of this film, as there is usually an extra scene after the credits.

Beyond the Black Rainbow

I came upon this trailer for "Beyond the Black Rainbow."  This is a Canadian film set in the retro past of 1983.  The trailer is more like a hallucination of a bad dream or a bad trip.  This is Panos Cosmatos first film and he both wrote and directed this reature.  In the last ten years I have come to respect Canadian filmmakers and actors and find them highly underrated.  Here is the synopsis from Wikipedia
"Deep within the mysterious Arboria Institute, a disturbed and beautiful girl (Eva Allan) is held captive by a doctor in search of inner peace. Her mind is controlled by a sinister technology. Silently, she waits for her next session with deranged therapist Dr. Barry Nyle (Michael Rogers). If she hopes to escape, she must journey through the darkest reaches of The Institute... but Nyle won't easily part with his most gifted and dangerous creation."
I don't think this film is for everyone, but I think if you enjoy filmmakers who like to see things abstractly and from an expressionistic point of view then "Beyond the Black Rainbow" might be up your alley.  In some ways I see a touch of "THX1138" in this film and bits of imagery of "2001: A Space Odyssey" or "Tree of Life"  with a touch of paranoia.

Set to release direct to DVD and Blu-ray on September 11, 2011 in the United States.

New Bourne Legacy Trailer

The Bourne Legacy: Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz | A Constantly Racing Mind

As it has gone on since I was a kid i am sure it will go on for the Bourne films.  With  Jeremy Renner as a new operative replacing both Matt Damon and the Jason Bourne character. Without Paul Greengrass as the director and Matt Damon as Jason Bourne/David Webb, I guess this is a spin-off of the series.  Although there is a book by Robert Ludlam (Jason Bourne's creator) there is seems to be no connection with the book other than the title.  However, we may actually be in good hands as Tony Gilroy will take on not only the script writing job but the directorial job as well. Tony wrote all three previous Bourne scripts and is also known for films like "Michael Clayton," and "State of Play."

Returning as Pamela Landy is Joan Allen ("Get some rest, Pam. You look tired") who actually was a good guy in the last two Bourne films ("The Bourne Supremacy,"  "The Bourne Ultimatum." Also returning is bad guy Albert Finney reprising his role as  Dr. Albert Hirsch who we know was the guy in charge of brain washing David Webb into Jason Bourne.  But, these characters are seen only on news clip footage.

New to the series is Rachel Weisz ("The Mummy," "Constantine")  plays Marta.  As you can see in this trailer she is only on for a flash.  The same goes for Edward Norton ("Fight Club," "American History X").  Jeremy Renner, who has played both good guys and bad guys and looks like a spy.and as we have seen in films like "The Hurt Locker,"  is a pretty good actor.

What do you think of the "Bourne Legacy?"

The Hunger Games trailer

Not since Y2K have we see a year that we have looked forward to with dread and foreboding.  Yet 2012 may actually bring us some good motion pictures.

In the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" we see a post apocalyptic future  world as told to us by Katniss Everdeen.  She is a citizen of District 12 in the country of Panem, and has volunteered to take her sister's place in the annual tribute to the Capitol in the "Hunger Games" during the "Reaping Day."  The Hunger Games as it turns out is a fight to the death.

Once again, Hollywood has turned to Greek mythology for their stories.  Collin's partial inspiration for her story was the Greek Myth of Theseus.

The  "Hunger Games" is due out on March 23rd. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence ("X-Men: First Class") and Josh Hutcherson ("Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," " Zathura: A Space Adventure") and is directed by Gary Ross ("Pleasantville," "Seabiscuit").
